Rachel Martino

Collaborator Doctoral Student

Rachel Martino (she/her) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Clinical Science program at Harvard University, where she works with Dr. Mark Hatzenbuehler in the Biopsychosocial Effects of Stigma Lab. Her research examines how stigma, discrimination, and broader social contexts shape the ways people experience, understand, express, and regulate their emotions and perceive emotions in others. Rachel graduated from Brown University in 2019 with a B.S. in Psychology and Gender and Sexuality Studies. Prior to graduate school, she worked in Dr. Katie McLaughlin’s Stress and Development Lab, where she helped coordinate longitudinal research examining how stressful life experiences shape emotion, behavior, and brain development during adolescence, and with Dr. Sophia Choukas-Bradley on research examining sociocultural influences on adolescent mental health, particularly among gender and sexual minority youth. Her clinical work focuses on adolescents and young adults with anxiety disorders, with a particular interest in working with LGBTQ+ youth and their families.

Fun fact: When she’s not doing research or clinical work, Rachel can often be found outdoors or making pottery.
